Our History - Moi University Christian Union

Moi University Christian Union was founded in 1984 at the inception of the University. This was as a result of a few Christian students who were transferred from the department of Forestry of University of Nairobi to begin the second Kenyan University, Moi University Eldoret. As soon as programs began, a few Christians started to fellowship at Kapatagat Hotel where they were hosted. Their aim was to fulfill the scripture as found in:-

Hebrews 10:25, not staying away from our meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

They involved some pastors and Christians in start of the Union with assistance from University of Nairobi Kabete Campus Christian Union. This was an aim of reaching out the student community with good news of the Lord Jesus Christ, nurturing them to grow and be established in Christ. There was handful born again Christians, six to seven brothers and one sister who were eagerly available to propagate the word of God and then they decided to form a committee to run the Union. They were both the officials and the congregation.

Some of the activities which were started during that time include Sunday fellowships, Friday Fellowships and Bible Studies on Tuesdays. The Choir team was also formed. Today, Christian Union boasts of various committees and ministries and with a population of over three thousands believers in comparison to seven members back in 1984.

Before settling down to the current place (LH1) of worship, Sunday services were held in various place beginning from school of Engineering-Electrical Laboratories and then to Mackay building.

Moi University Christian Union is registered in the Dean of Students office and affiliated the fellowship unions – FOCUS which is a fellowship of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES).Over a time, the Union has been involved in outreaches in and out of the university. Since 1987/88 we have had Varsity Mission to reach out to people and evangelize itself. We had a group from the late BISHOP MRIMA partnering with the Union in fulfilling this objectives. Subsequently this continued to take place every two years now it takes place after every three years.

Annual missions were started the main purpose being reaching out to people and preach to the message of Christ. This has taken place in Kiambu, Kericho, Kisii and Maragat among others such as the Ilchamus lately in Turkana. God Bless Moi University Christian Union
